Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 18, 2025

Thanks for using Folio! We care deeply about your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, how we use your data, and what rights you have.

What We Collect and Why

Here’s what we collect and how we use it:

Account Info

  • What we collect: Email address and password
  • Why: To create and manage your account

Saved Content

  • What we collect: URLs you save, along with a copy of the page (title, text, images, HTML)
  • Why: So you can read saved content later, even if the original page changes

Device and Browser Info

  • What we collect: Your device type, browser, and operating system
  • Why: To understand what platforms our users use and improve the product

Location (City-level Only)

  • What we collect: Your approximate city based on your IP address
  • Why: For analytics and improving product performance by region

Analytics & Third Party Services

We use two tools to understand how people use our website and apps. We aim to collect the minimum amount of data needed to improve the product, and we do not share this data with advertisers.

Plausible Analytics (Website only)

We use Plausible to understand which pages are visited and how often. When you browse our website, Plausible collects:

  • The pages you visit
  • The device, browser, and OS you’re using
  • Your approximate location (city)
  • Your anonymized IP address

Plausible does not use cookies and does not track you across different sites. It anonymizes all data at the time of collection.

Mixpanel (Mobile and Web Apps)

We use Mixpanel to understand how people use the app so we can improve features and fix pain points.

We proxy all data we send to Mixpanel to avoid exposing your IP address. The data we send includes:

  • A randomly generated unique user ID (not your email)
  • The actions you take in the app (e.g., saving an article, archiving, opening a story)
  • Your city-level location
  • Device type and browser/OS version

We do not send any personally identifiable information like your name, email, or IP address.

Tally (Surveys and Forms)

We use Tally to collect feedback, surveys, and email addresses — for example, when you join our private beta or fill out a feedback form. Any information you share with us through a Tally form is stored securely by them and sent directly to us.

Read their privacy policy

Emails We Send

We send emails only when needed:

  • Account-related messages (e.g., login help, password resets)
  • Optional weekly summaries of stories you’ve saved (you can unsubscribe anytime)

We don’t send marketing emails or share your email address with advertisers.

Payments

If you subscribe to a paid plan, we use third-party services to handle payments:

We don’t store your payment details. Those go directly to the payment provider.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), our legal basis for collecting and using your personal data includes:

  • Your consent
  • The performance of a contract (providing the app to you)
  • Our legitimate interests (e.g., improving the product, preventing abuse)

How Long We Keep Your Data

  • We keep your data while your account is active.
  • If your account is inactive for 18 months, we may delete your saved data after contacting you by email.
  • You can delete your account at any time from inside the app. This deletes all your saved data from our servers.

Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your data:

  • Delete your account – From within the app, anytime
  • Export your data – Download your saved data from the app
  • Opt out of emails – Unsubscribe from summaries with one click

If you’re in California or the EU, you have specific rights:

Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA):

  • You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information
  • You have the right to know what we collect and how we use it
  • We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising purposes

Under EU Law (GDPR):

  • You can request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your data
  • You can object to how we process your data or withdraw consent at any time
  • You have the right to data portability
  • You can file a complaint with your local data protection authority

To make any of these requests, just email us at [email protected]. We’ll respond promptly and respectfully.

Cookies and Tracking

We don’t use cookies for tracking. On the web, we store your login token in your browser’s local storage to keep you logged in. That’s it.

Children’s Privacy

You must be at least 13 years old to use this service. If you're under 13, please don't use the app or give us your information.

Who We Are (Data Controller)

We are the data controller responsible for your personal data under this policy:

Less Is Better LLC
A company based in California, USA

2005 Eye Street, Ste 3
Bakersfield, CA 93301

[email protected]

If you’re an EU resident and we don’t have a local office, we may be required to appoint a GDPR representative — we'll update this policy if that becomes necessary.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes, we’ll let you know by email or in the app. You can always find the latest version at savewithfolio.com/legal/privacy.
