Goodnight, Pocket. Hello, Folio.
With Pocket shutting down, we’re launching Folio – a new home for the links you save and the stories that stay with you.

Mozilla is shutting down Pocket.
That's hard to say – not just for me, but for anyone who loved Pocket. Especially those of us lucky enough to work on it. I was the head of product from 2018 to 2019, working with an incredible team: thoughtful, curious, and mission-driven, just like the people who used Pocket every day. We cared deeply about what we were building, and who we were building it for.
Pocket was never just another app. It was a quiet place to think in a noisy world. For millions of readers, it was more than a tool to save articles – it turned saving links into something personal.
What made it special wasn't just the design or the features. It was the people who used it. People who read deeply. Who followed their curiosity. Who believed that the right story, read at the right time, could change how they saw the world. That community gave Pocket its soul.
So we're doing what any reasonable group of people would do when faced with the shutdown of something beloved: we're starting something new. It's called Folio.
Folio is a modern read-it-later app, shaped by the same values that made Pocket great – simplicity, focus, and the satisfying feeling of saving something you're absolutely, definitely going to read later (maybe).
It's designed to make saving easy from anywhere, work across all your devices, and offer a beautiful reading experience that invites you to slow down. No noise. No pressure. Just space to enjoy whatever interests you.
We're launching in private beta this week. Folio will be available on iOS, Android, the web, and through browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. If you're a Pocket user, good news: we've made it simple to bring your saved items over. Pocket shuts down on July 8, but you can import your data until October, so there's time. No rush. (Okay, maybe a little rush.)
We're inviting people into the beta in waves, but our goal is to open Folio to everyone as quickly as possible. No long waitlists. No exclusive clubs. Just a short ramp-up to make sure everything's running smoothly.
If you've ever saved something because it made you feel something – curious, thoughtful, inspired – that's what we're building Folio for. A simple, joyful place for the things worth coming back to.
